At the GUUG Spring symposium

Given the start of the day, it had all ingredients needed for a horrible day. I was able to reach an urban train by running through the already closing door today. I was in the train after the door had closed behind me,, however but by laptop bag was outside of it. I'm really glad that the train driver saw this and unlocked the door again.

Nevertheless my talk about Deduplication at the GUUG Spring symposium was much better than the tutorial on Wednesday. For interested parties you cane download the preso, but it's just in german language and the voice track is missing.

However i've learnt a thing today: At the last GUUG Spring Symposium in 2009 i've held a two day tutorial about less known solaris features. I got the usual CeBIT cold ... the extra strong variant that put me out of order for almost two weeks. What i didn't knew until today: The people considered to make bets when (not if) i would collapse in front of the class. My appearance must have been really horrible.

In der Präsentation wird beim Einschalten der "Deduplication" auch der checksum Parameter auf sha256 gesetzt. Was genau bedeutet es, die checksum nachträglich auf einem Pool zu ändern? Immerhin sind dann ja bereits Daten mit anderen Checksummen abgelegt, werden diese dann nicht mehr in die Deduplication einbezogen?

Dedupliziert wird erst ab dem Moment, an dem eingeschaltet wird und es werden meines wissens auch nur jene berücksichtig, die danach geschrieben werden. Die Checksumme für die Validität ist eigentlich irrelevant, es gilt die , die man bei deduplication= einschaltet. Es macht nur sehr viel Sinn, das die identisch zur Validitätschecksumme ist, damit nicht zwei Checksummen berechnet werden muessen.

Das nicht nachtraeglich dedupliziert wird, ist einer der Herausforderungen, die sich mit dem bp_rewriter auch aufloesen sollte.

Jörg,

I had been sitting through two days of presentations at FFG2010 of GUUG, and I honestly can state: You were GREAT! There were only two presos that I did enjoy immensely: Yours and the one from Christoph Wegener.

So, don't be to negative to yourself about your performance, you were great! Entertaining, and still providing many valuable insights and informations.
